People with very high expectations have very low resilience.

And unfortunately, resilience is one of the most important traits of success.

One of my great advantages is that I have very low expectations.

I don't know how to teach it to you except for I hope suffering happens to you.

I wish upon you ample doses of pain and suffering.

Greatness is not intelligence. Greatness comes from character. And character isn't formed out of smart people, it's formed out of people who have suffered.

To this day I use the phrase 'pain and suffering' inside our company with great glee. I mean that in a happy way, because you want to refine the character of your company.

You can learn how something can be done and then go back to first principles and ask yourself, "Given the conditions today, given my motivation, given the instruments, the tools, given how things have changed, how would I redo this? How would I reinvent this whole thing?"

I show people how to reason through things all the time. This is how you reason through something that's super ambiguous. This is how you reason through something that's incalculable. This is how you reason through something that seems to be very scary.

You can't create change by doing what everyone else is doing. You have to go back to first principles and ask: how would you build this today?

My first job before CEO was a dishwasher, and I did that very well. I was probably Denny's best dishwasher. I planned my work, I was organized, I was mise-en-place, and then I washed the living daylights out of the dishes, and then they promoted me to busboy. I was certain I'm the best busboy Denny's ever had. I never left a station empty-handed. I never came back empty-handed. I was very efficient.

The thing I learned is you can make up a great interview. You can even have a bad interview. But you can't run away from your past, so have a good past.

VCs don't invest in business plans, because business plans are easy to write. They invest in great people. Your reputation matters, your history matters.

To realize a vision, you have to run for it. Don't walk. Run.

In your long journey, what will you create? Whatever it is, run after it. Don't walk. Run.

Remember, you're either running for food, or you are running from being food. And oftentimes, you can't tell which. Either way, run.

Unless you have a tolerance for failure, you will never experiment, and if you don't ever experiment, you will never innovate. If you don't innovate, you don't succeed.

We realized that not only do you have to create the technology, you have to go create this new market. So, we had to create technology, create markets.

The idea that company would create technology, create markets defines NVIDIA today. Almost everything we do, we create technology, we create markets.
